Pattern is Movement

Computer-augmented Sculpture, Projection Mapping
Dimensions: variable
Materials: projection surface, still or moving image projections

Pattern is Movement utilizes projection mapping, resulting in a temporary sculpture that presents two levels that explore different aspects of spatio-temporal reality: the first level consists in a physical volume that controls real space and acts as a support for the second level, consisting of a virtual layer of projected light that permits the viewer to experience and control the transformation and sequencing of the light, color and contours of the sculpture.

Rejecting the pixel-perfect match between video projection and volumetric screens "Pattern" produces a willful mismatch, throwing light and surface into a tense dialogue. The objects withstand their role as passive receptacles, engaging in an active dialogue with the projected video, adding an additional element of perception.
